Last weekend, the guys attacked Big Jack's Smoking Lounge with ladders, paint rollers and unlimited enthusiasm to finish the job started the week prior. John Henry, Tim Hawkins and Rich Restivo lead the rush of willing "Rembrants" and the result showed Monday evening. Special mention goes to Tim and Rich who worked their proverbial butt off to stay ahead of the hardwood flooring team who gathered as the painting team retreated.
Our selection of pre-finished hickory flooring was widely received by all as a great look and one that we were striving to achieve for the Third Street Cigar public lounge. Leading the team of installers were the dynamic duo of Dave Graven and Bob Miller with supporting rolls played by Jim Gregory, young Sam Jennings and Bill Perry.
Our hearts went out to "Farmer" Bill Perry who was unceremoniously declared persona-non-grata from another local cigar shop; one where he had been a major fixture for the past ten years.
Bill, adding his effervescent personality, knowledge of cigar and pipe tobacco, customer relations and, overlooking his decidedly liberal mindset on all things politic, will be a great asset to our management team at Third Street Cigar.
As work was progressing upstairs, Jim the drywall guy and his team arrived at zero-dark-thirty Monday morning and attacked the Retail Shop and humidor. By weeks end, they had completed their initial assignment and left. Leaving a spotless work area which was much appreciated.
The humidor manufacturers from Wixon, MI, Custom Creations, arrived on Tuesday to take final measurements for their part of our construction -- building the humidor. This Spanish cedar lined, barrel vaulted ceiling masterpiece will come from the premier humidor supplier in all of the USA. Coupled with a modern humidifier pumping filtered water vapor from a state-of-the-art reverse osmosis water treatment plant at an optimum humidity of 70% for the perfect environment for our cigar stock.
Speaking of cigar stock. Many humidors in cigar shops that we walk into today are pretty much a freakin' hot mess of cigars on display, added stock on shelves in reserve and cigars no one wants to buy.
Our mission at Third Street Cigar is to not have our humidor look like our high school son's bedroom.
We have decided to build a reserve stock humidor in the basement connected to our central humidifying system. This will enable us to take advantage of manufacturer's specials and keep our retail humidor neat and tidy.
All of this has come as somewhat of a shock to Randy Tucker who, until now, thought that the basement was his for whatever nefarious activity his demented mind could imagine.
Sorry, Randy, but it's a big basement and we can still co-exist.
I would be remiss in neglecting to relate the efforts of Tom Clark, who, in his Bowling Green manufacturing facility, has been designing our eyebrow window which will be located above the door and lower windows of the humidor.
Tom owns a company that manufacturers precision measuring equipment for the automotive and aerospace industry and has placed one of his magical CNC machines at our disposal which will mill, from laminated stock, our eyebrow window. This one-off window that we could not afford any other way will highlight the humidor facade.
Hundreds of other things are going on in the background everyday and I won't bother you with those details other than to say that your investment in this operation is being well looked after.
Keep a reserve stock of Apple Pie Moonshine and some of my special Port on hand. I know everyone liked both when I brought them in.
