World famous blues sax player, Eddie Shaw visits Third Street Cigar...

World famous blues sax player, Eddie Shaw, played a gig at the reopening of Hines Farm last night. Before heading out to the farm he stopped by TSC to see his old friend, John Henry, and press the flesh with a few of our guys. (Pictured here with our store manager, Dave Graven).

We plan on bringing Eddy back into town for a night at Third Street Cigar.

Stay tuned for details...

USA vs Germany, World Cup Soccer at Third Street Cigar...

World Cup Soccer Update:

Looked like the USA was going to pull off an incredible win tonight over Portugal. With the USA leading right up to the last seconds in a five minute penalty overtime, Portugal headed a tying goal to end the match at 2-2.

Thus the USA advances to the third round against powerhouse Germany and can continue with a tie or a win against the third ranked German team...

No need to take a few days off, buy an airline ticket and an expensive seat to watch the match in 100 % humidity in Recife, Brazil.

Take the afternoon off, amble out to Waterville and watch the match at Third Street Cigar in air-conditioned comfort.

Correction...

Going along with what I have always believed to be true, that you never believe anything you read and only half of what you see, we find out now that the Summer Block Party in Waterville is tomorrow night, not Saturday as reported in the City Paper...

We will be at Third Street Cigar both nights to Midnight...

See you there.

Johnny Rocker and the Hitmen...Summer Rock Block Party

Close to Completion...

The writer of this blog (yours truly) has been on a wonderful fishing trip with my brothers to the mountain streams and lakes of the Eastern Sierras, just east of Yosemite National Park and, although the trout were plentiful, the blog has suffered.

Back now, and needing a rest from my two-mile-high fishing vacation, it's time to update the Third Street Cigar blog.

It's amazing how much got done in my absence (or, maybe, because of it) and only goes to show that this project of ours is a group effort with one goal in mind -- to create the finest cigar shop and lounge in the Midwest, bar none.

John Henry's original blues, jazz and rock and roll artist photo collection is complete and the work was hung for display this weekend.

The state-of-the-art humidor is stocked with the finest premium cigars available and we have more in the pipeline.

Our humidifiers are keeping the stock at a perfect 70% humidity in both the retail and the storage humidors.  We keep track of both the temperature and the humidity using a software / hardware package that samples the two parameters continuously and records that data every two seconds to a data base that warns us if one of the parameters exceeds certain preselected limits.

Except for a couple of minor items, Big Jack's Lounge in the loft is complete.

The memorial to Big Jack Reynolds is taking shape and we have his ashes in a beautiful urn befitting the fine old musician.  We still have to place his guitars and harmonicas on the landing, but when that is complete we think Big Jack will be pleased with his final resting place.

The photo art collections there were hung this weekend also and the results are spectacular.

The selection of our sales team has been finalized with Dave Graven assuming the role of General Manager.  Dave has appointed a team of knowledgeable, professional and customer-oriented sales personnel whose only goal is to please our customers.

We have changed our hours slightly to accommodate the needs of our customers.  We will still be open from 10:00AM - 10:00PM Mondays - Thursdays and Sundays, but have extended our hours on Fridays and Saturdays to close at Midnight.

Unofficially Open for Business...

What a week!

UPS and FedEx trucks arriving on a daily basis delivering cigars from all corners of the cigar world packed the rear parking lot.  Rich Restivo on leave for a few days from his normal shipping job was appointed dock manager and did a stellar job directing traffic.  As the cases rolled in they were placed in our storage humidor and the boxes of cigars unpacked, sorted and given a temporary home waiting their final destination in the retail humidor.

Randy Tucker, Dave Graven and Bob Miller underwent an intensive training course from Tara Wilson, of the tech support wing of our POS system supplier and learned how to log those cigars into our data base so that we have an "up to the minute" inventory that can be called upon at any time we choose.  SKU numbers had to be generated, bar-code labels printed, and slowly the retail humidor began filling with stock from the storage humidor.

Although our Grand Opening will not be for another month, we decided that it was foolish to let those incredible sticks languish in the humidor and not make them available to the buying public.

Therefore, last Friday night, the first sale was made.

Bob Miller sold a cigar to John Henry.  A new milestone had been reached -- our first sale and over month early.

Although work continues in the retail side we will open Third Street Cigars on a daily basis, 1000 to 2200, for cigar sales as well as access to the public lounge, Big Jack's, in the upstairs loft.

Stop out and say hello...
